Goosander is a Norfolk Broads boat share syndicate cruiser, based at Horning on the Northern rivers of the Broads. Welcome to our website.
The syndicate is made up of 12 full shares, giving the owner an 8% share of the boat, and one half share at 4% ownership. The maximum any one person or group of persons may own is two shares. A share will become available when an owner decides to sell, the price being set by the seller, (currently in a region of between £5,500 and £7,500). It is then up to the seller and purchaser to complete the sale and the new purchaser is required to sign the syndicate agreement to complete. When shares become available, they are entered for sale on the adjacent noticeboard. The purchaser is then entitled to 4 weeks use of the boat per year. These are allocated by a draw which takes place at an annual meeting and owners are entitled to one week in each of the four seasons.
As each shareholder is in part a boat owner he/she is responsible for the day to day cleaning of the interior and exterior, including fenders – all part of the fun of ‘messing about on boats’. Owners are also required to complete a toilet pump out and to fill the diesel tank at the end of their stay on board, at their own expense, leaving it ready for the next owner, as you would expect to find it. Any damage caused to the boat due to an owner’s negligence must be paid for by them – up to the limit of the insurance excess.
As an owner, there are annual fees to pay, which are used to keep the boat in tip-top condition and to pay for permanent moorings at Ferry Marina in Horning. Currently, the members pay £262.50 per quarter for this, which includes servicing, moorings, and breakdown rescue costs. As we are a ‘self-managed’ syndicate we look to all members to help with the running of the boat where they are able.
Goosander has a full inventory of everything you are likely to need whilst onboard including pots, pans, crockery, cutlery, glassware and kitchen utensils. However bedding, pillows, towels and tea towels are not included and you are expected to bring your own. Other pages on the site detail what you will find on Goosander, with lots of images. Please take a look at our lovely boat. If all this sounds "right up your street" and if there are currently shares available to purchase, please make contact and we will be pleased to arrange a viewing. If shares are not currently available, you can register a no obligation interest, by completing the wait-list form linked to on the adjacent noticeboard. We will then contact you on the order of date of expressed interest basis should a share become available.
